Preventive Dentistry
Preventive dentistry is the practice of caring for your teeth to keep them as healthy as possible. This helps avoid cavities, gum disease, enamel wear, and more costly dental procedures. There are many forms of preventive dentistry, such as diet, daily brushing, flossing and dental cleanings. In order to maintain optimal oral health, the American Dental Association recommends visits to the dentist at regular intervals determined by your dentist. These practices are designed to ensure that teeth are clean, strong, and white. Children should be taught proper oral hygiene at an early age.
Restorative Dentistry
Restorative dentistry is first and foremost concerned with keeping the mouth functioning as best it can and, in the process of doing so, can improve the overall look of one’s smile. Restorative dentistry refers to the procedures that your dentist performs to keep your mouth healthy and functional. These procedures may include fillings, root canals, crowns, and dentures. This kind of dentistry does not require any specialization; it just refers to the preventative and corrective steps that general practice dentists take to make sure that our mouths stay as healthy as possible.
Cosmetic Dentistry
Whereas restorative dentistry is primarily concerned with keeping mouths healthy and functioning, cosmetic dentistry is more focused on improving the look of your smile. While dentists always put the health of your mouth first, having cosmetic procedures done may not necessarily improve function as much as it improves appearance. Often, restorative dentistry will fix major issues, such as missing or broken teeth and then cosmetic measures including teeth whitening, bonding, contouring or veneers can put the finishing touches on a new smile.
Teeth Whitening
According to the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, more than one-third of people are concerned by the looks of their teeth, almost 20 percent hide their teeth in photos, and over 70 percent of adults believe an unattractive smile will hurt their chances for career success. Your smile makes up such a large portion of the impression you make, it’s no wonder people strive to ensure their teeth look their best! Having your teeth whitened at the dentist’s office by trained staff, will provide you with the highest quality process to achieve a safe, uniform and lasting result. Your dentist understands the importance of ensuring the whitening process is safe and the results are appropriate for your teeth.
Orthodontics
Everybody wants a great smile, but a lot of us need help getting there. More and more people are having success with a technology that uses clear orthodontic devices called aligners. While traditional braces use brackets connected by wires to encourage teeth to move, aligners are a series of tight-fitting custom-made mouthpieces that slip over the teeth. These orthodontic devices are a transparent, plastic form of dental appliances that are used to adjust the teeth. Because the invisible aligners are custom-built for a tight fit, they are best suited for adults or teens. These clear or “invisible” aligners aren’t ideal for everyone and your dentist will help you decide on what options are best suited for your particular needs.
Emergency Care
It is important to know what kinds of injuries require emergency dental care, so you can make sure that your family’s teeth are taken care of, while avoiding unnecessary trips to the dentist’s office. Many emergencies exist that can range from bacterial, fungal or viral infections to a fractured tooth or dental restoration failure, each requiring an individual response and treatment that is unique to the situation. Dental emergencies don’t always involve pain, although this is a common sign that something needs to be looked at. All dental emergencies should be treated under the supervision or guidance of a dental health professional in order to relieve pain and preserve the teeth for as long as possible.
Our Team
At Guthrie Family Dentistry, we believe a patient is an individual to be cared for, not a dental condition to be treated and that YOU are our most important asset! We will always strive to develop long-lasting, trusting relationships with all of our patients.
